Argh Matey - Pirate Fruit Booty Bars -September Poetry

Welcome to another month's edition of poetry, a group challenge where we pick a theme and write in our own style. After my poem you'll find links to the ones participating.
This month's theme? Talk Like A Pirate, because, well who doesn't love to do this? My boys did when they were little, they loved to dress up and take their plastic swords and have sword fights, put on little plays and chase each other around. Ahh the memories! I have pictures but I'm sure they would rather me not share those.
Growing up on the east coast of North Carolina, home to Black Beard, we had lots of stories or gold, sunken treasure, places he slept,etc.. In Beaufort you can take a cruise and a pirate will invade the boat and give out gold coins to the kids to try and persuade them to join his rowdy gang. The coins are candy and it's always lots of fun.We took the boys once when they were little. Yes I have pictures of that too. LOL
So here we go matey!

Argh Matey
The Captain bellowed
listen up fellows
land ahoy!

Prepare to land
let's hit the sand
run up the hill
and let out a shrill

Dig the hole
look out for moles

Bury the treasure
and watch out fellars

My pirate fruit booty bar
will be your reward arrrr

Gather up quickly men
so we can retire to the den
with a mug of grog
while we watch the fog

Thar she blows!
Land Ho'!!
Pirate Fruit Booty Bars

10 oz bag of mini marshmallows

Similar to rice krispie treats but soooo much better! Yes I am on WW and YES I did have one, or two but who's counting? I am. Seriously, I did count the points and track in on the app. It's not horrible on points but worth it either way.
In a large non stick pot if you have one, I don't so I rubbed the inside with a drop or two of oil to make clean up easier.
Melt the stick of butter and marshmallows. On a low to medium heat. Be careful not to melt them too quickly and scorch it. That would be bad.
Remove from the heat and pour in your cereal.
I added all mine at once, seven cups at first then decided it needed a few more.
Next I rubbed a dab of butter all over the inside of a 13x9 casserole dish and pressed the mixture inside.
Next I sprinkled Nerds candy over the top, a strawberry grape mix and pressed it down.
I popped it in the fridge for a few hours, cut into 18 and then 30 pieces. One it reduced the point value in my WW app and secondly, a large piece was just too much for me! Super sweet but dang they were good!!
I cut them all up and placed them in a large air tight container in the fridge. Yours might last a while but my guys loved them and after a few days POOF gone like the wind Bullseye!
The pictures are of them cut into the 18 pieces, after I took the photos was when we did the taste test and I decided to cut them smaller.
These would also be great for a Halloween or class party. If they even do such anymore at school. If not, maybe you could make them for your little people.

  1. Oh, my word, my grandkids will LOVE these!
And great work with the challenge!

  2. Great poem and I love that we both used food as a reward in our poems.

  3. I just don't think it gets better than booty bars ;)
