Pearl, William and the twins - UYW May 2015

I started working two weeks ago now that school is out for the summer and I have hardly had two minutes to think much less cook. So with that in mind, today I'm sharing a recipe that was on the blog 1 year ago today.
Spicy Chicken Salad with dressings

If you are like most of my readers, you are here to find out what my words are and WHAT is going on with Pearl and William....
The voting on the twins names was a run away, however, after much debate I went a different way. Why you ask? Because I wanted to keep the names true to the time period and their heritage. The names that won the vote (Marlee and Micah) are NOT Amish, Dutch, German nor something from that time. I did like them so I may use them in the future as other characters but for now... the twins are (drum roll please)
Hanna and Thomas

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.
I’m using:   Hypnosis ~ ginger ~ jet lag ~ cut out ~ imbalance ~ Yankee
They were submitted by: http://thethreegerbers.blogspot.ch

Rose leaned back in the rocker on the porch...wow she thought, twins! She looked across the lawn and sipped her ginger tea. Her thoughts cut out to a simpler time, the life was rough, hard and the days were long but Great Great Grandma Pearl had a simpler life than Rose did in so many ways. Looking at the few and rare photos next to her, she could see the strong family resemblance. Her brother Caleb looked so much like William and maybe her sister Ashley favored Cousin Sarah.
Caleb walked over and punched her in the arm, "hey space cadet, are you under hypnosis with this diary?" Rolling her eyes she ignored him. So he said "what are you reading about our Yankee Amish ancestors now?" THIS got her attention AND made her mad. She glared at him and he knew he crossed the line so he jumped the porch railing and took off around the house.
Rose sat there for a moment, thinking of the imbalance in her life, her heritage being Amish but her not being and something inside her longed for that life. Could she do that?
bee bee beep bee bee beep
She laughed, no she couldn't  she said out loud as she picked up her cell phone to see who the text was from.
Several days later as she sat in her room still suffering from jet lag she sat on her bed hugging the diary and mulling over all she had learned so far...

Twins, she still could not believe it. Pearl sat in the rocking chair that William had so loving crafted for her. She ran her hand lovingly over the arm and gazed at her babies. Hanna and Thomas, her great grandma would be so proud, they had agreed on Hanna being named for her maternal great granny and Thomas being named for William's PaPa Tom. oh...there was so much to do but she was so tired maybe while they were sleeping she should rest a bit but what a horrible thought, laying down in the middle of the day when she wasn't sick. Her Ma would be ashamed. Oh Ma, that thought brought a big smile to her face, the letter arrived yesterday and Ma, Pa and her youngest sister would be arriving. Slowly she raised to her feet and started to redd up the room. She heard whistling and rushed to the door.
shhhh as she slowly opened the door. William blushed, kissed her and quickly walked over to the cradle that held his two precious children. Oh Father what a blessing! TWO babies, both healthy and as beautiful as their Ma.
Pearl watched William as he gently lifted out little Hanna, kissed her brow and returned her to the cradle. Then he did the same with Thomas.
William wrapped his arms around Pearl and he kissed her, they turned back to the sleeping babies and smiled.

Rose closed the diary, laid back on the bed and fell asleep dreaming of a simple life on a farm with the man of her dreams.

  4. Ha, you had to find an elegant way of squeezing the darn jet-lag into your Amish setting, and you did GREAT! I wish I could see a picture of the baby twins!
